1993 corvette that runs great but I would like it to start up, idle and run better. Besides the basics, change fuel filter, spark plugs, wires and trying some carb treatment, what else is there? It has 70k
injectors?
battery?
alternator?
opti?
adding MSD or ACCEL?
Not really too much of a problem. I amnew to corvettes so I don't know how a good lt1 sounds. However, at idle it doesn'tsound smooth. Allthough it reads a constant rpm, it sounds off. Second, it starts up great after sitting but whenever wamr, you have to give it some gas to get it to start right away. Third, in first or second gear (when cold) it will give me some slight bucking then its gone after 5 minutes of driving. It's hardly noticable.
First, have you ever owned domestic vehicles before? I have found that a lot of people who are used to honda/toyota engine idle are not happy with LT1's.
nope. on the contrary, I have owned an s-10 with a supercharger and now a full size with a diesel....
I brought it over to my mechanic and he said the noise that I am hearing is the fuel injectors. That I should try adding a bottle of injector cleaning. He did point out that the pulley on the end of the crank shaft was out of balance. The out of balance was in the same rhythym as idle. This could be throwing the weight of the engine around and affecting the operation of all other components attached to the belt. I may try a few things and if I give up....dealer???
I don't have my camera with me so I will try to describe.
It is inbetween the 2 sets of fuel injectors on the driver side. Should have a little hose connected to it. Just pull the hose off and unscrew the PCV valve off.
Shake the PCV valve and you should hear it (spindle) rattle. if it doesn't it's clogged up.
