Default Help!! What is this?!?

I changed the fuel injectors on my '88 yesterday. I finally got the car back together this morning and took it for a test drive. It was running really hard. I had heard this popping noise while I was driving. I thought that maybe it was a screw I dropped in the engine, so not even 3 houses down, I had to turn around and go back home (lol). So I opened the hood and inspected the engine. Everything seemed fine and I even walked up the street to see if maybe I coulld find the screw I think I heard. I found nothing. Then I saw this thing was broken.. Iunno what it is. It's located next to the fuel injector at the top of the engine on the passenger's side. Please help me figure out what this is!!

Thanx in advance!

~Derek

Looks like the EGR diagnostic switch wire. If you take it out on the highway you'll probably get a code 32

Should be able to get one at about any parts store...and if all else fails, the dealer.

I'll give 'em a call. Would this be a reason why my car is running so hard? I just replaced the fuel injectors so I don't know if maybe it's this reason or that the car needs to get the fuel running again..

You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. 1st thing I'd try is move the injectors side to side with the engine running to see if you can hear them sucking air. If that isn't it it does sound like a manifold leak somewhere. The EGR switch won't make it run that bad.

I got the problem resolved. Turned out that I forgot to screw in one of my screws after I had to take the intake runners off for the second time. But it runs great, now =)

I called the Chevy dealer about getting the EGR Diagnostic Switch.. the idiot didn't even know what it was. By any chance, is there another name for it? Like the EGR temp or something?

It is the EGR Temperature Switch.

Since the connector is burried down to the left of the dist, it will be easiest to just cut the wire and splice in the new lead.
