here is my 86' with AFS 11" ZR-1 rears with 315's. A guy at this year's Forum Cruise-in told me one side would stick out more than the other and he was right. He said they all do that for some reason. The driver's side sits flush with the body, but the passenger side sticks out about 1/2". You can see that in the pic:
Heres a pic of my 95 with 11" ZR1 style wheels (GS offset) and 315's. They tuck in great and look great. I would put 11" wheels on any vette because all that rubber rocks!:
Here is a pic of my 90 ZR1 with real ZR1 offset wheels and 315's. They tuck in just a little tighter than the standard vette with GS offsets.
anyone have pics of there ZR1s or other rims with 315s or bigger tires.
I currently am running 315s on my 93 with Fikse FM10s 17x 11. They don't stick out at all. However these are very expensive and well built wheels that use every 1/10th of an inch of possible backspacing......i.e., they are 1/2 inch more into the wheel well (8.348 inch backspacing) than the GS 11s (7.9 inch backspacing) and 1 inch more into the well than the ZR1 11s (7.4 inch backspacing). the GS 17x11s will stick out that 1/2 inch.
I have run 335s on this same car and they had to stick out. The reason was that the larger tire would contact the control arm on the inside of the tire when mounted on my Fikse's with their greater backspacing. I solved that rub with a set of 16 mm of spacers which gave me the same backspacing as the GS 17x11s approximately.
I only ran these since my tires are not normally built in 315s (Kumho Ecsta 700s; the DOT racing tire). And than one day (I have seen none since) I saw Tire Rack had some in 315. So if anyone wants a set of 335 Ecsta 700s with near no miles on them let me know.
335's will stick out. I got CCW wheels made with as much offset as possible before the tire hits the trailing links. Now these are 12.5" wide; the tire would pull in a bit with narrower wheels.
