What alternatives do I have for Optispark replacement on my essentially stock (intake, exhaust, 160 T-stat, chip) 92 LT1?
Thanks
The Dynaspark is the only "replacement" for the Opti. I have one and love it.You can eliminate the rotor in the opti and add the Delteq coil system but you still need the opti for triggering it.
Check out the current issue of VETTE magazine LT1 to LT4 article. I had an opti problem and replaced it with a DynaSpark. You get what you pay for! My OEM opti had less then 2,000 miles on it and it couldn't provide spark past 5,200 RPM. The DynaSpark is the only choice it my book!
The "forum experts" will chime in and tell you it's over priced, etc. Talk to owners that actually run them on their Corvettes and you will notice a trend...they meet or exceed the owners expectations.
If you live close to Fort Wayne, IN or Columbus, Ohio I will offer to assist you with installing a DynaSpark.
If you cant afford an Dynaspark, which is a very good product, get an OEM and remember it has a 12 month 12000 mile warranty. Dynaspark has a similiar warranty.

I'll tell you what not to do, don't do as I did and buy one from Autozone. The price was attractive, also offered life time warranty. I only replaced it because I was nearly there replacing water pump and it was approaching its service life (75k). Since then, never developed more than 4200 rpm.
Given the difficulty and time required to replace it; go ahead and pony up the money up front. Trust me...

Pretty much. I installed a Dynaspark because I wanted to eliminate the one weak spot in the LT-1. If you go with a Delteq it still relies on a properly functioning Opti for a signal on when to fire the plugs. When I looked at all the pros/cons and costs I went with the Dynaspark because it replaces the Opti with a near bullet proof unit. I have only read of one user who had 2 fail back-to-back on a modified engine and the source was traced to a reluctor ring (inside the engine timing cover)problem causing excessive vibration of the Dynaspark.
