Do I need a programmer?
I've done some minor mods and am trying to find out about the ECM now. It's a pretty much stock 94 LT1 six speed used for low speed auto-x and some street cruising. SLP intake, (I know it doesn't really do much but it looks cool and I got it from a friend cheap, ), BMAD, EM long tube headers, RT cats, Corsa cat back, Spiro-Pros, NGK's and all the RD Racing bolt on chassis mods. As I said, it's basically stock, no internal mods. (Rebuild is planned for next year).
So with these few mods will I really see any performance improvement if I send the ECM out to someone like PCM for Less? Is it worth the hassle, cost, and downtime? Do I need to buy a programmer? All the stuff I've read says the cheap ones aren't worth a darn and the expensive ones look way too complicated. There are no tuners nearby to take it to for actual dyno work so I can't go that route.
Thanks.
