ihave an 84 and some one put on an after market alarm on, it was hanging done on the drivers side os i took it out.. all they did was splis in to the wirering the only wires not hooked up are a white one and a pinkish one .. the car well start if i get under it and jump the starter across but when you turn the key nothing and the radio and every thing works
It is difficult to tell when aftermarket parts have been added, and you don't know exactly what was done. I'm not sure just what all this means:

But it sounds as though you haven't undone all that was done during the installation.
The 1984 doesn't employ the V.A.T.S. system, but there IS a Theft Deterrent System. The alarm may have tied into it.
Personally i'd start by removing the aftermarket system. Try unlocking both doors with key from the outside. There is also a red fuse behind the information panel that will disable factory system when it is pulled if all else fails.
i had a problem with my '84 similar to yours. antique viper alarm system half assed into the wiring but not powered, and the factory system. my trouble was in the switch on the lock assembly in the drivers door. My factory theft deterrent system would go haywire and then I would be stuck! I didn't feel like paying the nearly $100 for the parts so to fix my trouble I put a momentary push button switch [$3.00 radio shack] in the wire loom that goes up to the door lock. If you have the door panel off the drivers door you will see these wires I am talking about. If you can cause this problem to occur try gounding the two wires to each other to see if this is indeed the problem you are experiancing. I had to do this more than once so that I could drive home. i just hid the button on my door. out of sight. This beats pulling the door apart and crossing the terminal with a coin to shut the damn horns up! hope i was of help .
probably you have a starter interupt in the aftermarket alarm. I understand when they add the keyless to the 84 the original is left in the system and mainly it is used only for the keyless entry. The difference is that if you have the viper alarm if also has the capability of having the ignitin disable also installed. in that case on the alarm box there is a blue connector on the box itself, if you connect a momentary switch to this you will have access to the settings on the alarm for programming which includes putting it into VALET mode which keeps that part of the alarm disabled so the only alarm in use will be the factory(door and ignition only). If you need the info on the viper system such as programming and wiring I have that inn a PDf, give me an email and I will send it to you. Personnally I haven't even found my viper box so I can program a new fob I purchased for keyless entry. I know it is somewhere on the drivers side but have not found the time to really look with work and other time consumming tasks. Let me know as I do have all the wiring diagrams and electrical schematics for the 84(just don't have them in front of me and it is kind of late) and I will look it up for you.
