Default how to replace a 02 sensor on 85?

Can any one tell me how to replace the 02 sensor on my 85. I posted the real bad gas milage thread. Thanks for reponses. Want to if I could replace the sensor myself if possible. Get nothing but more trouble at local Vette shop! Any brand to recomend. Car is all stock. Had spark plugs changed, throttle body cleaned, new filter but never ck. the 02 sensor. My mpg is like 12-13 city driving (Lots of stop and go, Vegas) so as per forum advice gonna change 02 sensor. No gas smell, passed smog so I believe injectors are O.K. If 02 senor is not it, what else might it be. Would I smell gas if there was a leak anywhere? Thanks for your HELP once again

The o2 is in the drivers side exhaust manifold. Unplug the connector, turn the sensor counterclockwise with a 7/8 wrench. Install the new one and reconnect. The new one will already have anti seize applied to the threads to prevent galling.

Warm it up a little first. It seems to make them come out easier.

I must correct myself. The sensor is in the exhaust pipe just below the exhaust manifold. Somewhat easy to see and remove. Even if your o2 is not shot, occasional replacement is a good idea.

First you can use field service mode (details on my site) to see if the ECM is going into and staying in closed loop mode.

If you replace the O2 sensor do not touch no get dirty the sensor end of it while handling and installing.
