Default Interesting boost observation- s trim

I've been struggling to get boost out of my s trim setup. Most of this has been associated with getting a tight enough belt on the car. The stock 51.0" vortech one was way too long. Not much tension at all. I saw 5 lbs with this one with the 3.12 pulley.

Next I saw 6lbs with a 2.85 with a 50.5". I saw 7 lbs once with this setup.

Today I swapped on the 2.85 reichard pulley with the same 50.5" belt. I saw the boost climing up past 5 and 6 psi and then it slipped back down to 5 psi from 5000+ rpm.

The belt was too loose for that pulley combo. I picked up a 50.0" dayco poly cog belt today for future use.

Just to satisfy my curiousity, I swapped on the stock 3.12 pulley with the 50.5" belt. With this setup I saw 7 lbs toward redline twice on a couple test runs. boost kept climbing till the shift @ 5500 rpm. Midrange torque wasn't as dramatic and it took just a little longer to get up to 5 lbs of boost but it was nice to see it keep climbing(the boost needle).

Up next will be the 50.0" and the 2.85" reichard pulley.

If I were doing a build up I'd go that route. That setup looks awesome. I'm mainly just trying to get as much as possible out of what I have here. The only additions other than maintanence that I'll make/or have made to the car are alky injection and tuning/tuneup changes. My goal is 550 fwhp, so I don't have too far to go.

My intentions are to make good power and keep the daily driver status. I have another car to get radical with the blower stuff. That one already has a trans and longblock capable of holding 9 second horsepower. I'm worried that if I up the ante too much with the vette, I'll break my trans before I really get moving.

your main problem is the belt is slipping. if you go to gregs 8 rib set up. you can always change the pulley to keep the boost down untill your ready to up the power. with the 8 rib set up and the right pulley you can get 6 psi and no slipping.

Gene,

Qwiketz, has seen my setup...

Quiketz, yeah bud it take a lot of horsepower to drive the Vortech at higher rpms... seeing mre that 6-8 boost with a 6 rib is about the limit... you can get more boost with the 3.125, but your gonna have to spin in excess of 57-5800 to get it...

With my old 7 rib with the 3.125, I was occasional bumping 10 psig with the inlet modification that you have on yours... but I was pushing 6000 rpms... and a trans going out to lunch...HEH... every rib helps or a belt that you literally have to pry on the pulley...

on an interesting note, I pulled the belt and noticed that the second rib in had torn off somewhere down the line. I"m not sure if that happend when I made some runs with the reichard setup or what.

Anyway, 7lbs of boost with a stock pulley really isn't too bad for a 5 rib belt turning it.

I'm in the process of getting the 50.0" on the 2.85" pulley. We'll see if this thing cooperates...

Once that stretches out a bit, I may toss the 3.12 back on there. It'll be super snug then(if it goes on).
