I live in Atlanta and im looking to change the wheels on my LT4. The only place i found to do it was called Butler Tire. They have to dismount 8 tires and remount 4. The price came out to $350. Is that high? On top of that they said you have to have a special tool for vettes and other smaller places dont have the tool for the vettes. Are there any other good cheap places around my area?
BS. Take your car to another tire place. There is no special tool required. It should cost no more than 20.00 per tire. And that still high.
My local shop in Elberton,GA charged me 8.00 per tire to mount. I'm sure things cost more in Atlanta, but it is also more competitive.
Im calling around and they do....they cant take them off regularly because of the sensor in the tire. Its a 1996 Vette. Nobody around me will touch them.
**Actually now an Amoco by my house said they have 3 different machines and they think they can do it. $6 a tire. What kind of machine do they need???? I dont want them using the wrong machine and screwing up. Does anyone know the type of machine or name of it so I know.

Am I to assume you have the Low Pressure Tire Warning System (or however it's called) which means runflat tires and sensors?
Otherwise, what you need is the Hunter Road Force Balancer 9700 and the Hunter mounting machine. I've seen both in action, on my car. Just had same situation; replaced all wheels, and same tires. Took over an hour. Cost: about $110 or a little less.

Go to 93's guy. Hope he has the right stuff.
Both shops have the needed equipment to mount and dismount tires for a Corvette. The only thing special might be the tire pressure sensor. The C5s do not require special tool but I don't know about a C4 tire pressure sensor.
