Default Just something else to watch for

with your alloy heads. Here is my story and something that I hope saves another from going through. In the spring I was posting about how I was going to finally do some much needed work on my 89. injectors, new EGR and while I was at it have the heads rebuilt. Well that was months ago and being old and crippled it took me a few weeks to finish. Well I fired it up and out the exhaust came lots of white smoke. White smoke = water so I was pi$$ed. Narrowed it down to #8 cylinder and I'm thinking "Did I screw up" So it's almost summer and as usual there are other priorites so the car sat till last week. Upon tearing it down I found the problem. It seems the water passage just under #8 had corroded and when the heads were slightly milled the hole increased in size that it went under the sealing ring of the head gasket and was noseing into the combustion chamber. So for all you good folks that have your heads off, take a moment to lay the new gasket on the head and check for clearance around the coolant passages.

This is whats going back on in the next few days.
