I have a '92 that is having trouble starting, then once started it has trouble staying started. I took it in to the chevy dealer to have the fuel pump replaced and some computer thing...still doesnt' work. Wondered if someone had any insight before I go blow more money at the dealership. Or if anyone knows of a vette specialist in Salt Lake City, Utah other than the dealer.
Can you describe with detail exactly the car runs like it would help.
Is there any smells?
Do you have a factory service manual?
When it starts does it miss?
Does it ever run OK?
How many miles on it?
We cannot guess without more info......
Do you have access to someone who knows something about cars(boy friend ,brother) that can help you describe what your car is doing?
The most problems with LT1(92-96) engines and starting issues occurs through the ignition system or fuel system and there are quite a few possibilities.

My explanations of my car I know are terrible, but I just don't know a lot about cars and the people I do know who know about cars say that they think its not getting enough fuel to it. Here is some more explanation. It takes a second to start...have to hold the key for a few seconds before it finally turns over. Then I will drive a few feet and it just dies. But sometimes it won't turn over at all...just make the sounds like it wants to start. And it does stink like burning oil when I drive it...i've heard that is normal...is it not? It has about 115,000 miles on it. And yes it does run fine some of the time, that's where the crap shoot is...its an off and on thing.
What else do you need to know...I really need help...I love this car and would love for it to run better.
There are three basic components, air, fuel, spark. if one is missing, things ain't right.
do you have any idea if the car has ever had a tune up?
Does the light on the dash, Service Engine Soon (SES) flash?
I am more in the mind set that there is a leaky or weapy injector...
oil burning is sadly a common occurance... however, it is not "normal". I would suspect the intake manifold gaskets and the valve cover gaskets. Also check the rear main seal and the oil filter housing.
