I'm building a new motor for my 87 Vert . Got the Accel Super Ram , started to put the base on the motor and there's no cold start injector provission. Can it be eliminated ? I live in Nor Cal , so it's warm climate . Will ECM allow a bypass or elimination ? HELP !!!
Anybody else with a Super Ram come up with something , adapter or I don't know what ? I know I'm not the only early C4 with super ram . What did evrybody else do ???
When I did the Super Ram on my '87, I simply disconnected the ninth injector harness from the injector and neatly bent that fuel line out of the way. No codes thrown.
Starting it up in the winter (every now and then) was a little more difficult, but like 65Z01 said, you can probably compensate for it with the appropriate tune.

Sounds like that's the ticket , huh ?! Thanks for the info . I was wondering if something like that would work , hard to tell with these darn computers !
I've got the same manifold base on a year-earlier car. You can buy plugs or caps for the fuel rail from a number of sources including Street and Performance (www.hotrodlane.cc), and you don't *really* have to change anything in the ECM. You'll just crank a bit longer at startup. I've got one MEMCAL modified to pulse all 8 injectors at startup, which helps a lot (and is what GM did when it deleted the cold-start system), and my stock MEMCAL which expects the CSI. The car starts fine using both, but one just cranks a bit more.
You also don't need one of the temp sensors at the front of the manifold; however, I don't remember now which one works the cold-start.
Converted my '86 to '89 fuel rail and '89 prom to eliminate the 9th injector. During trouble shooting I put my '86 prom back in and it didn't trip any check engine lights. Also the 9th injector only cycles when the engine is cranking and the water temp is below 100*. You'll need to figure out how to cap off the fuel line for the 9th injector. IM me if you have more questions.
Just get a PROM burned for it with the 1989 code (ARAP is a good one). Remove the Thermo-time switch on the front of the manifold (or just disconnect it) it is the larger of the 2 items up there. Remove the cold start injector and fuel line. cap off the fuel rail port with a #6 MS style cap. Oh...and pull the "crk" fuse from the fuse block, that operates the cold start circut.
