what is this?

i just went to remove my main cat on my '91 TPI to check if its clogged and theres a small metal tube going into the passenger side of it. what is this? and what does it do?

I'm not completely sure how newer setups are but if you have a smog pump (a.i.r.), it's used to put fresh O2 in the catalist to burn up the carbon monoxide (co) into carbon dioxide (co2).

Follow that SS line up past the center of the RH header into one of the AIR lines from the diverter.
