Right before I fixed my headlights in the "up" mode and disconnected the motors, something weird happened. When I pulled the headlight switch, the lights would come on but the motors would close, not open, the doors. When I pushed the switch back in the doors would open and the headlights would go off. Last week I spent a small fortune on newer style headlight conversion (GM) and when I cut the old motor relays off and installed the new converter peice, the problem didn't go away. And further more, the new motors don't respond on the first pull. I have to turn them on, off, and back on again for them to go up. I'm thinking their not getting enough amps to start rolling and the switch in the dash is bad or grounded some how causing reverse operations of the motors. Any ideas or anyone else have this same problem? I switched the motor wires on the new converter relay to temp. fix this problem, but I wonder if thats causing the delay opening. I also have a right amber running light and fog light that does not light up and causes the cluster turn siginal (right side) to stay lit. I replaced the bulb and tested the voltage but got none. I think this is a typical problem with GMs and Chevys because I see it all the time on the road. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks
The three relays on the front driver side fender were cut out and rewired to two large plugs that went into a box about the size of the plastic peice that covered the old relays. The directions that came with it shows that I did everything right and reconnected the wires correctly. Is there any other relay in this system?
You need a new module, the black box you described. From Chevy they're right about $100.
Make sure you got everything wired correctly before plugging in the new module or you could damage it.
Its not the headlamp switch.
I was once told that the module is the same on a Fiero,& that they cost less. Idont know about that.
The module I got was brand new and I know I hooked it up right. Oh well, I got a warranty with it. I'm gonna see if I can get this replaced, but I still think I might need a new switch because the reverse operation happened before the new setup was installed, and I can't think of anything else that could cause this. I found a switch at ecklers for $25. Is this too much? thanks.

JMOH! But it sounds like the switch is doing what it is supposed to be doing(opening and closing a circuit). However it seems like a relay or two is wired wrong or has failed. IE headlights run up when powered off and run down when powered on.
I would trouble shoot the system and check to see what was happening electrically with the relays before throwing more money at parts.
Alright, so I elminated the switch as a defect. I bought a new one today and installed it. The old one was in two peices anyway and had to be replaced. I'm going to call the people tomorrow but I still don't think the black box is bad, but I could be wrong. Is there any way to test it? Whats my next step? and whats up with the passenger side lights (fog, running) not working? Strangly, the running light doesn't come on car is on, yet will light up when turn siginal is on. I'm sure someone else has had this problem and I thought this was related to the headlight problem, but now I'm now sure. thanks
