Default '84 Instrument Cluster

So I got my instrument back and reinstalled it. My wife had to help as usual. It still doesn't work. On start up I get a fluctuation of instruments. After it settles down everything is frozen as before. All instruments light up but nothing registers.
Can there be a bad connection somewhere? A simple fix I overlooked before sending it in?

Default Your cluster

Clusters are so much fun ! I also have a 84 and have had numerous problems. Right now, on occasion...everything fluctuates...as a result of a connect problem. Something I discovered one time is that the main cluster seems somewhat dependant on the other "cluster" which has the temp...gas milages...and so on gauges. It might have been a fluke on mine, but I found that if the connection to that set of gauges was not good, the main cluster did not work correctly. I have to agree with others also that grounding is a problem with the 84's all the way around. If your ground to the cluster is not good, it won't work, or won't work right. Somewhere here...is a step by step guide in how to correct the grounding problem. While I used to think the ground problem was a result of broken solder in the cluster, I have come to believe that the ground in general on the cluster just sucks big time . It might not hurt to run a ground off the other cluster(Thats what I did and it solved many spuratic problems I experienced.), as they are connected together. Don't know if this will herlp you any, but it's what I have done.
