I see some people are concerned about thinking 3rd gear won't ever shift to OD, even if you are taching the 5500 rpm redline. First off, it will take a while to get to 136 mph if you are 100% stock. Secondly, it will only shift to 4 on WOT if your car originally came with the 3.07s. If a person had 2.59s and slapped on 3.07s, that may be the reason that the 3-4 wasn't shifting because in a 2.59 car, you'd reach the top speed on 3rd gear, 155 mph @ 5300 rpms. Even if you could push it faster way past 5500 rpms, it still wouldn't shift because the OD + 2.59 gear makes the next gear out of the power band. I'm glad my Vette finally shifted to OD without letting go of the throttle after passing 136 mph. Each time I went faster than 136 mph, I'd have to let go of the throttle for it to shift to OD because I was afraid of seeing 5500 rpms for more than a couple seconds. Yes, it will seem like your car is pegged at redline for awhile but if your car had 3.07s from the factory, it should shift. God that was fun but I still had to test and see if I indeed have my 3-4 shift at WOT.

That is nuts! The gear ratio spread in the 700R4 and it's derivatives doesn't change with the rear axle ratio. The rpm drop when shifting from 3rd to 4th at 5500 rpms is the same whether the rear is a 2.59, a 3.07, or even a 4.11. You will be no more, in or out, of the "power band", because of the rear axle ratio.
Is this speed accurate?
Do you need to be doing 135 plus mph to get the shift into 4th?
I have 3.07s and my car seems to run out of steam or out of road before it will shift (about 130 mph). If i back off on the throttle it will shift right away.
I would think that stock 2.59 cars top out in 3rd, right?? So if you take your foot of the gas, THEN you'd shift to OD and hope to have enough power to pull OD + a 2.59 gear. Looks like 3.07 cars use all of their gears with the the L98s stock power to the top speed. Just the 3-4th shift will take awhile. Now if only I can take my car to 195 mph @ 5500 rpms...

Mine would pull 4th all the way over 150 without a problem. Now with the 3.73's if left in OD she will shift into 4th at 85mph and pull it to 140.
Again, same trans as it had in it with the 2.59's. Shifts at WOT just fine. But if I put her in D she will pull 3rd to about 115 then I shift it to 4th and she will run to 140.
When I drag, I run her in 3rd (D) and she runs 12.4's at 114mph.
It has never had a problem pulling 4th in or out of stock form.
Not sure where you are getting your info, but it's wrong.
mine shifts to 4th at 132.
thats with stock 3.07's in an 89....
it is scarry to get it to shift to 4th though, cuz it hangs at redline for what feels like forever

If you just barely touch the brake pedal (just enough to flash the brake lights), it should shift into OD
