I was looking for an easy fix to my broken seat track but was disappointed when I found this inside. The plastic carrier is broken in a couple of places and the small plastic carrier on the end is also broken. All the gears look good, but I don't think a coat hanger will fix this one. I seriously doubt that plastic part is available for purchase to a general dumba$$ such as myself. I took several pics of the process of disassembly but it looks to me the best route is to purchase a rebuilt and send your core in. Here are links to a larger pics.
I don't know if you have all the pieces to try to glue it together but if you do, I've used PVC cement (for sprinkler systems and PVC pipe) on a couple of different projects around the house and they've held together real good. Noting to lose but your time.
If you're lookin' for CF permission to not DIY, you got my vote bro' The white plastic is probably Delrin. PVC cement might work on it, but you don't want to do this job again, either.
I have decided to take a stab at fixing the seat. It will have to be assembled anyway if I have to eventually send it in as a core. I cleaned up the plastic pieces with Naptha to get the grease off and then cleaned the fractured places with Acetone and Superglued the thing back together. I used Loctite glue and it seems to be holding well. Tomorrow I'll reinforce the weak spots and the areas between the gussets with epoxy and sandwich the thing back together. Stay Tuned.
There is always a seat track for sale on ebay. I bought two recently and at 60 bucks a pop!
Lots easier to use good parts.
I can't afford that. There's one on there now for 60 bucks with two days left, shipping would be at least 20, and it could be ready to take the craps at any time. Besides if this don't work it won't be any worse that it was to begin with and I found thirty-five cents under it. I like to take stuff apart and wanted to see what was going on inside the thing anyway.
