I have most of the parts now in hand for the c-5 front brake upgrade. I have GM rotors, z06 calipers and pads, and am waiting for the stainless steel flex hoses from Big Brakes, one of our sponsers. I thought Chris at Superior Chevrolet was a big help, as was Kevin at Big Brakes. They were both real gentlemen. The question is, can I simply look at the assembly of the c-4 brakes and tell how the c-5 brakes go together? The rule of thumb with brakes is take apart only one side at a time so you have one side still together to examine when you cannot remember where the little "do-hicky" goes. But in this case, with different parts, how similar are they? Can anyone who has done this upgrade alert me to considerations here? Also, how about the bleeding issue. Can I bleed the system satisfactorily with my vacuum pump? I have a 95 coupe which has ASR and ABS. Thanks in advance for any tips.
Hey Man!; thanks for the tips, and thanks for the confidence building positive thoughts. ..I figured they could not be too difficult since I read about guys who change their brakes on race day, and then go back to street brakes afterwards. I have never bled the Corvette brakes though. I have bled many other systems, many times. I am told I need a techII machine. Is this just dealer BS? I have always used a Mity Vac pump, and just drawn on the open bleeder until it runs clear. Is there an order to the wheels that is best? How about the bleed valve on the ABS pump? Should I bleed that first?
It really is very straightforward and simple. I might suggest that you mount the adaptor brackets to the spindel with red locktight as a safety measure. I used my mighty-vac to bleed my C4 brakes all the time. Nothing special there. Start at the passenger rear, driver rear, passenger front and lastly driver front.
