Default Temp sending unit

I have two sending units in the front of my intake manifold on my '86 L-98. Which is the one that goes to the instruments?

Neither. One is the CTS for the ECM and the other is the cold start fuel injector switch. In your right side cylinder head, between the #6 and # 8 spark plugs, you'll find the aux fan temp switch. In the some hole of the left side head, between the plugs for #1 and #3, you have the IP temperature gauge sending unit.

Neither. The upper one is the CTS for the ECM and the lower is the cold start fuel injector switch. In your right side cylinder head, between the #6 and # 8 spark plugs, you'll find the aux fan temp switch. In the same hole of the left side head, between the plugs for #1 and #3, you have the IP temperature gauge sending unit.

I have an early 86 which came with iron heads. My setup is just the opposite.

The passenger side head, between 6 & 8, has the dash temp sending unit and the aux fan switch is in the driver's side head between 1 & 3.

In fact, I removed the driver's side switch and plugged the hole because I installed an aftermarket aux fan (original fan threw a blade) and set the new fan up to operate from a toggle switch I mounted on the dash.

That's twice, today. I don't know why, but I looked this up for a 1985. "Upon further review" the 1984 and '85s have the fan switches on the right and the gauge sending units on the left. In 1986 The General swapped sides, for these items. It doesn't matter if it's early or late, cast iron or aluminum. In 1989 GM did away with the "9th injector" and the second device in the front of the intake manifold dissappeared.

I hope my mistake didn't cause any inconvience. I appologize.
