I was a new '84 Corvette owner as of about 4 months ago. When I purchased the car the instrument cluster wasn't working. I logged onto the forum and heard that this is a typical problem for the digital dashes.
I looked into the many places to send them and choose Southern Electronics. After getting my dash back I reinstalled it, started the engine and the same problem surfaced, fluttering on start-up, I was then able to see the instruments but nothing worked.
Rather than repackage it and send it back, I took it to my local mechanic, Boykin Automotive in Thousand Oaks, CA. It took him 2 hours to determine my problem, no power to the cluster, and fix it.
Lesson #1: Before shipping you cluster off to a company accross the country, have someone check out your electrical.
