I have an '87 shifter and it idles at 1200 rpm until I hit the throttle then it drops to about 800 rpm. the idle adjustment screw is backed way out. By hand when I move the throttle plates it seems to stick when the engine is running, but works smoothly when engine is off. I installed a new IAC and set the the throttle position sensor, but still the same problem.
any ideas?
Just an idea.
When I was playing with mine - I found that you could actaully back the set screw down too far and the throttle linkage was binding slightly and the IAC was overcompensating.
Go thru the process of setting your base idle to 450 w/ the IAC disconnected and computer in diagnostic mode.
Mine would not even idle w/ the IAC disconnected until I turned the idle screw back in some.
