shock absorbers machining
I have a Doug Rippie coil over kit that I wish to install on a new set of adjustable Koni sport shocks.
I am advised to machine a groove in each shock at about 1 inch from the bottom. As anyone already done such machining? Any concern about the thickness of the body of the shocks?
I finaly came to the coil over modification because I believe the biggest difference will be on (bad) roads and not on (good) tracks where suspensions never get in crosstalk situation.
Thanks
David
there might be something on their website.
DRM could probably provide some information. You might
also get better response if you create a thread in Autocross
and Racing (under General Corvette). Maybe just create a
link there to this thread so no one accuses of cross-posting.
.
I've been browsing the web (many forums) about the coil over subject. It looks like it is a very delicate subject about installation on ungrooved bodies (welding and some other horror stories ...).
So finaly I e-mailed Koni and we'll see what they'll say about the shock body thickness.
About DRM, Randy couldn't give me numbers about deepness of groove. But that's true that I don't even know the diameter of the shock bodies... Hopefully it will be the same 2" diameter.
Thanks
David

I can't imagine who would advise you to machine a groove in the shock body, but I would not do so until Koni gives you the okay.
Good luck....and keep us posted on your project.
