Code 1886 HELP!!
This started after I had the fluid and filter changed . The tranny shop reset the code and it went away until I left the car sit for a couple of days and now its back. If I let the car and tranny warm up and then shut it off and remove the negative battery cable for a short while , the SES light stays off and everything works fine, no SES lights .. what happened????? DID THE TRANNY SHOP SCREW SOMETHING UP..?
Don't have the manual for the 1996. If you have the manual, then gathering information is not difficult.
Another thing I ususally do when getting a code:
Google: type:
"P1886 GM OBD II code"
Something along those lines. On several occasions, I've gotten codes on later model OBD cars (wifes grocery car) and gotten several good hits. One was a Snap On site, gave the exact testing procedure. Not always that lucky but every now and then.
I believe that shift solenoid may be visible when pan is removed. I would read up on the item, review troubleshooting procedures, find a couple of leads on a transmission repair forum, and then talk to the people that replaced the filter.
Good luck and let us know.
