If you dont want this thread getting out of hand, see if Mojo can move it over to the scan and tune. Otherwise you could go to work and come back to this and it will be 3 pages long and you wont know anymore then ou did when you first posted it.

Oops, okay, I was thinking Tech section, forgot all about the Scan/Tune, my bad!! Thanks for the direction!
I have 3 93 speed density LT1s. And it is easy to do once you invest a grand or two of cash on the right equipment and several hundred hours to learn how to do it. And you get really good once you have maybe a thousand hours of tuning time.
I am am not trying to be funny. If you are not willing to really get into this don't start and simply buy from a reliable tuner or vendor. You will be way ahead of the game.

Don't worry, I won't ever get involved trying to be a tuner!! I'm just hoping, someone, somewhere can do it right after doing engine mods, or I'll leave the damn thing stock! I don't need any headaches...
I've just heard that S/D engines are alot harder to have it tuned right rather than a MAF engine, so before I take the plunge into modding the motor, I just want to know if its worth it or not ('92 LT1 here)
I tell you what, If you decide to put a hotcam in that car (or any other cam) in your car I can tune it to where she should drive like it could have came from the factory like that.
The only time speeddensity gets tough is when your doing blower stuff or just really unusual combinations. If you have any doubts check with the person you have in mind to tune it before you order/build your car.

Okay, that answers my question then. I'm just thinking hotcam/lt headers, and ported heads with roller rockers, etc, nothing too radical...Thanks!
I had Alvin tune my 93 which is a hotcam, ported heads, headers. and the mailorder tune was dead on. Idles great, mid throttle is great, etc. I had him do a dyno tune about 1 month latter and there was very little difference in the car. Im telling you his mail order tune is very accurate.
Oh, and by the way, I passed emissions inspection with flying colors on everything except the HC. Now the HC passed but not as well as the other readings. I have been told by several others that this is normal with the hotcam due to valve overlap.
I do my own tuning and SD is harder in my opinion. Most of my time has been spent dealing with tuning issues created by having an auto tranny. Idle is alittle hard to get right, as well as when the convertor should lock up to keep surge to a minimum. If you like to "tinker", then tuning a hotcam 6M should be relatively easy. If you don't want the "hassle", then just order a chip from someone with a good track record. Just a note: once you start tuning, it is hard to stop. It seems like something could always be better. Good luck with your decision.
