Default Stock plug wires on a modified engine

Guys,

I ran a measurement comparison to my dad's plug wires. He's running GMPP wires and I'm running factory L98 wires.

His are measuing in the ~600 ohm range, whereas mine are in the 6000-7000 ohm range. Anyone see any reason that this could cause a rough idle and/or misfire? Maybe these wires are sufficient for a stock L98, but not on a ~380-400 hp Minirammed ZZ4 with over 10:1 compression?

I just recently burned out an MSD coil as well, so I'm wondering if the resistance on these wires is too great for my application.

Unless MSD specified their unit was not for use with stock wires they should be ok.

The resistance of my TPIS performance wires varies from 625-1,100 Ohms, depending on length.

If your stock wires are in tact they should not give the rough idle. If you suspect a bad wire you can check the spark plug condition and/or clip a timing light onto each wire looking for missed flashes.

If all is well with ignition, you may have a faulty/clogged injector.

Personally I would replace them. I like the Taylor wires. Mine seemed fine but definetly stopped the miss at 1100 rpms when I changed them. 6000 ohms seems way to high to me. Check www.summitracing.com They have them in all colors and specific for your vette. Cost is around $50.00 for the set.
