looking at a 91 with 80,000 on it 6speed took it for a ride rides good when we got back to the drive way the car was making a clunking noise when i put the cluch in the noise went away let it out it came back .The car has been siting for a while 400miles this year everything else looks good tires etc and cluch does not slip when you step on the gas any info on what this could be? thanks
If you let the clutch out in neutral, and it makes the noise, it's probably the dual-mass freewheel. Do a search of the forum for more info. Ask them to take $1200 off of the price, cause that's about what the flywheel and clutch will cost you (installed).

Lots of nice vettes for $10K and under out there. If everything else checks out first, negotiate the repair of that problem and in the mean time, check our autotrader.com/ there are plenty of vettes there to choose from. LOL.

If you realy want a 91' 6 speed, I'd go ahead and set the price you are willing to pay for the vehicle and leave it at that. The 91 is special to me because it is the last normal small block, updated body and gauges. It took me 2 years to find a blue 91 corvette.
If you aren't picky (or just not sure what is your perfect vette) just wait for the right vehicle. Plan on putting 2K into whatever you buy though (repairs and upgrades to your liking). This way you'll be happy with what you have rather than in want of something else.
Either way, there is always another deal out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If he has already changed the clutch to a single mass, the tranny will rattle a bit. If he says this is the cases, ask for a reciept. I'd ask for a reciept for every not original on the car so you know exactly how/what was changed.
i have a c3 81 already and yes i know about the few grand to fix them the way you like i'm at the point now do i put 4-5grand into a paint job on a 81 (everything else is done )or do i buy the 91 for 8500 and put the cluth in and drive it and hope that not too much else has to be done to it?

This is pretty funny, because I had $6000 save ready to put done on a 1981. Every car I found had this or that major problems with it. Since I knew I wanted a car I with ABS brakes, 17" wheels, etc..., all the 81's I found were the exact same price as the 91's. Since the 91 was closer to my end car, I started to look for a 91'.
If you 81 is the car you wanted, then keep it and paint it. If it is just a used car. or a multi-year fleeting fancy, then you should've sold it awhile ago.
