Default Exactly what year(s) engine harnesses will work?

I'm currently installing a '88 engine into an '85. The car came with no engine harness or ECU. Obviously a '88 engine harness will work but before I start hunting around can anyone tell me exactly what years I can use? Are there differences from '85 to '91 as far as the engine harness?

BTW the car is an Auto.

thanks!

There are differences from year to year... it's rather sad.

I cannot quote scripture as to what the differences are.

With that sad, the 85 harness will work the 88 engine in a 85. The only thing you need to deal with is the cold injector... I don't think they had one in 1988.

Also, it would be a good idea to find a new ECU from 88/89, if only to gain more computing power.

88 still had the cold start injector. 1989 was the first year of no cold start injector and last year for MAF with TPI. Hope this info helps I'm not sure what other differances
