OK I am in the middle of changing a leaking rear main seal.I have a 96 with a LT4 and 6-speed. I have the trans out and now I am at the bellhousing! Is there a trick or something to get the bellhousing off? I am dealing with the clutch fork and the throw out bearing, it doesnt seem like it wants to come out! Help
ZFDOC.com has some good tips on pulling the bell housing. Yuo have to pull it away from the dowel pins and then rotate it a bit. If it's really stuck, you can remove the pivot ball lock nut and loosen the pivot ball to give a little play in the throw out fork. I only did it once, but it worked pretty well.

Be sure it isn't the trany front seal leaking instead!

Be sure it isn't the trany input shaft seal instead/too. Ours was mis-diagnosed by 2-3 prior owner's 'mechanics', causing numerous clutch replacements.
The tell-tale sign for ours was oil on the trany input shaft splines and a increase of wetness when the trany was tipped forward lowering the input shaft.
BTW, the manual says to 'align the fork fingers on the flats of the release bearing (i.e. between the 4 ears/tabs).
not to be funny or a s--thead but didn't chevy come up with that one peice rear main so they wouldn't leak? my 86 has a little leak coming out of the inspection cover of the tranny so i am thinking rar main too? what year was the change from two peice to one peice???

Don't know, but 94 has 1 piece

Don't know, but Our 94 LT1 has a 1 piece rubberized seal (installed using 'my' special tool -- 4" schedule 40 PVC pipe cut about 6-8" long -- instead of the big $ special tool from GM).
Bingo++++ I found the leak. It is coming from the housing that holds the rear main, it fastens the block. It was loose and not sealed aginst the block. So now I will replace all seals and gaskets and all is well I hope
how did the home made seal installer work I am doing a flywheel change$$$$ and as long as I am in that far I will change the seal
Well I need to pick up the seal after work but I had to remove the housing and all to get to the gasket behind the housing that hold the seal. So I will put the seal in the housing amd then install the new gasket, seal and housing that is holding the seal!!
