I want to make up a spare memcal for my 1980 Corvette fuel injection conversion. I am using the "727" ECM and memcal from a 1990 Corvette. I have modified the original memcal by changing out the eprom to the newer style electrically erasable prom. I will be using Alvins services at "PCM For Less" for the modified bin.
My question to the experts....... is it possible to use a memcal from a 1990 V6 Lumina. They use the same "727" ECM. Will the limp home section of the memcal be the same (or comparable) as one from a V8. I plan on replacing the UV prom on the memcal with the electrically erasable prom. I can get them cheap at the scrap yard. Spare "727 ECM" and memcal for $25.
The spare 727 ECM can be used but the prom has cylinder select, knock sensor, speed sensor filters on the right hand side.. So I'm pretty sure a lumnia prom will not work.
Check ebay, alot of times you can find them on ebay pretty cheap. Or you can get a piggyback adapter.
One final question for you.....can I use a memcal from a manual tranny car, change the bin to what you gave me and then use it in my automatic equipped car. Is the limp home (right side) portion of the memcal the same for both types of cars?
