scrapeing noise when starting out,HELP
Took the 91 to a GM dealer today toget a few things done, oil & filter change, brake fluid flush, diff. lub flush, etc. & to have the car checked over real good by a buddy of mine that works there. we inlisted together back in 68 so i trust my life with him. Any way, i also have an issue with a scrapping noise that seems to be comming from the back end, i thought maby the brakes, so also had him check them. seems thay are fine, 50% left on front, & 60% on rear. He could not find anything that could contribute to the noise. it only does it once, when starting out. never from a stop sign or red light. if i start the car and start out it makes the noise, stop, turn off the key, re-start it will do it again. it makes the noise for about 1 foot length. Any ideas as to what the heck is going on.
I had a similar problem on my 86 and observed the same problem on a friends 85. It is a metallic scraping sound when you first start to move a cold car. The ABS cycling is a very pulsing rythmic sound. We always thought the sound came from the internal parking brake. We could not find any mechanical issues. On a later car with the the caliper parking brake I have observed similar sounds from a wheel bearing or u-joint gone bad. Good luck.

Found a service bulletin on the (other corvette site) on the ABS self test that happens with each re-start. say's it's normal and not to atempt repair.can that self test cycle be eliminated to rule out the problem. don't think it's the e brake or anything else as it only doe's it on key start.
