Default Need help striped the knock sensor

I put the car up on ramps and bean what I though would be a 5 minute job.
I do not know what the hell is wrong but I can not get the old knock sensor off the engine block.
Now what do I do???
I have no idea how I am going to get the old one off so I can get the new one off.
Is there some special trick to getting a knock sensor off I do not kn ow about.
Some help would be appreciated, greatly.

Do you mean that you rounded the cap of the knock sensor? or did you strip the threads going into the block.

They come out a bit easier when the engine is warm.

Not the threads where it screws into the engine block. I striped the actual knock sensor.
I just sprayed it down with wd40 and I will try it again in acouple minutes.
But if that doesnt work what are my options?

First WD40 does nothing(except it is a good Bass lure spray) use PB Blaster if you read here long enough you will see it mentioned over and over.Spray it and let it sit over night then do it again. Now what did you strip you are not being very clear? Why are you taking it out to begin with?Channel lock are always a good last resort.

To clarify...
I rounded off the cap of the knock sensor (what you use to take off and put on the knock sensor 7/8 inch).
I have not striped the actual threads as I have not been able to move the knock sensor at all.
The old knock sensor is STILL ON I am trying to take the old one off (which I have not done yet).

See my last post.PB works WD doesn't.A heat cycle will help it soak in.
I would think you could go to Sears and get one of those self adjusting wrenches.

Good option -
If you can still get the socket on it use a breaker bar - try going tighter then loose then tight then loose - sometimes you can shock it to break free.

Did you round it with a 12 point or 6 point socket?

Vice grips and a propane torch are your best friends for this job.

If you can get a good grip on it, a pipe wrench can help get off stripped pieces. Seems like the only time I strip something it's in a place that can't be reached with a pipe wrench.

Often a 12 point just rounded the corners of your fastener, and a good 6 point I.E. snap-on flank drive, S-K etc may still save the day.

As stated earlier PB Blaster and a little heat usually loosen stubborn projects. I would try a quality six point prior to a Big A$$ pair of channel locks, pipe wrench, or vise grips.

Do they use thread-locker on these sensors? Be careful about installing the new sensor...torque is important or you'll have bigger problems.

The self adjusting wrenches swivel on the handle sort of like a oil filter wrench. When you go to loosen it will tighten on the nut.

Well just bought a 6 point socket pirece and that did not work out so well, I also sprayed it down with PB Blaster.
And to answer somebodys question. On the instructions on the new knock sensor it says DO nOT put anything on the threads before instilation because it will cause the sensor to get bad readings.

I guess I will go back to Sears and get an adjustable wrench. Wow an easy 5 min project that should have only costed 30.00 (for the new knock sensor) is starting to add up.

For those of you that have changed your knock sensor. Do you think a self adjusting wrench will be able to fit and reach the knock sensor and still be able to turn?

My only other alternative would be to take it to a shop so they can deal with the pain.
