headlight motor question - difference in years
I have been playing around with the idea of putting a C4R headlight package on my car. I came to the conclusion today, that i would rather spend my money elsewhere. Going to take the wife to Paris in March - need to save a few pennies..
Aside from that, what is the main difference between the early model c4 headlight motors vs. later models. I know the gears are a big deal when comparing the two. Are they virtually interchangable? Are the wiring connectors the same? Can I take a motor from an 88 and plug it into my 84?
Any advice would be great. I will do a cheap fix now just so i dont have to keep the headlights stuck in the upright position.
Some years back,I bought the 88 and up retrofit kit to install in my 86 and I had to cut, splice wires/remove the 3 relays and harness off the 86 to install the 88 and up system with the control module.
So it wont just plug in and work.I long since sold the car but do remember doing all that work. These days, there are a few sources that can rebuild your old motors.Im not sure who they are but have seen it.Years back,no one fixed the 84-87 motors so I went with the upgrade.Lucky for me,a friend in the parts department sold me a 500 dollar upgrade for 300.Their cost was 280! So they made 20 bucks off me,thats it.
Try and find out who can fix your motors these days. Also be sure your relay isnt the cause of the headlights being stuck, although I know its usually the magnetic parts inside the motor that break and cause it to fail, not always the gears.
HTH some.
