Default Smog Pump Elimination?

I'm thinking about getting rid of my noisy smog pump (air pump) with an eliminator kit. Will the computer on my 91 (OBD1) know it's gone?

BTW, Vendor claims 20hp gain... I say no way. Anybody have any experience here?

Rob

Replaced mine almost a year ago (noisy also). The ECM won't care (no codes). However, before a smog test you'll need to make sure the engine is up to temp. Also, if you live in an area that requires a visual inspection as part of the inspection process (like Cal.), it won't pass.

It's a sales pitch to get you to buy their product. It cleans up your engine bay more than it would add HP.

It wont add HP, it'll remove useless crap from the engine bay. So long as your engine temps are up, you will pass a sniffer.

That's why I just gutted mine and got rid of the noise. Still pases visual cause the mod is internal. Plus I can't justify the high cost of these brakets anyway.

It will add 0 HP
The parasitic drag of the smog pump, provided it is functioning properly, is almost 0 as well.

The pump weighs very little so you will not achieve any significant weight loss by removing it.

The only significant advantages to removing the smog pump would be to remove the clutter of the air pump in the engine bay and to eliminate a pump that is not operating properly.

Anything else is fluff.

Edit: FYI, I eliminated mine.

How'd you gut it? I'd rather do that.... Is it obvious?
