The last couple of times I started the car it seemed to strain a little to get the engine turning over, especially when hot. So tonite ,when I got home from work, I hooked up the battery charger just to see if it was weak.It was, so I let it charge a while and then started the car. I then noticed the battery charger reading the battery was only half charged. While I watched, the charge went to 100%. Realizing the battery is shot, I try it one more time, that is when the starter gave up as well. I know the egr valve is bad too, or something related to it. So the list of repairs looks like this. Plugs, wires, dist.cap, rotor button, transmission, fuel filter, air filter, fuel pump, water pump, coolant sensor, serpentine belt, headlight motor now a starter and battery, probably an egr valve all in the last 9 months. Oh yeah ,I need some tires and an alignment too. I sometimes wonder if this car is worth it, then I pack my fat a$$ in it and stomp the gas I think it is...
thats quite a list. but if it makes you feel better here are the things that I had to put on my car just to get it to where i could screw the licsense plates on.
dist cap, rotor, plugs, wires, ignition coil, cat, 2 rear tires, a new starter w/ selenoid.
things that still need replaced.
the paint, valve seals, windshield wipers are acting up, needs new carpet / seats door panels etc.
and i just bought the car..
was it worth it... some times i get moody working on it, but every time i leave a stupid ricer with a fart can muffler in the dust, i just grin and think "yep it was worth it"
The love/hate thing with Corvettes. I go back and forth with "I love 'em", next day I want to sell them also. It never ends as long as you own any car, let alone a 15 yer old one. Part of the price of admission, I suppose. There are worse things to be spending money on, though!
Now the starter has been replaced, and the battery. It has thrown code 54 so while I was in there I put a new fuel pump relay in it. I figure 197000 miles, and it is only 10.00 .But it is still giving the code 54 along with 32. I clearedthe codes, drove it for 30 minutes. Just before pulling in the driveway, ses light reappears. Pulled the codes again and 32 and 54. My troubleshooting skills suck, any ideas??
