A friend of mine with a 92 LT1 asked me how to drain the coolant. He said he couldn't find a drain on the radiator, so I told him I would ask the question here. If it is on the radiator, can someone pinpoint the location?
On my '94, the radiator draincock is located a bit below the lower radiator hose.
To drain the coolant from the engine block, remove the knock sensors.
Be aware that there is a procedure for refilling the c/s on an LT1/LT4 engine in a Corvette. You'll need to bleed the air out of the system. On my '94 there's a bleed screw on the throttle body, and another on the thermostat housing.
Do not allow coolant to get down onto the Optispark, or you'll probably end up replacing it, too. Pack rags or towels around below the bleeder screws before you open them, to catch any coolant that gets out of them.
on the right hand side (passenger side) down the bottom facing the engine. underneath where one of the auto tranny lines go. Unscrew that and the water comes out the bottom of the rad
If you don't want to remove the knock sensors, use a Shop Vac with blower capacity, remove the radiator cap, and put the hose over the UPPER coolant reservoir (the BLACK one not the WHITE overflow reservoir on the passenger side of the radiator.
The forced air will push all the coolant out of the system, including what's in the heater core. I just did a flush-and-fill last week on my '92 and it worked great. Saved a bunch of time, too.
Do this three or more cycles until you see nothing but clear water come out and then you'll KNOW all the old coolant's been evacuated.
