Decided to dig into the car this morning to see if I could find the source of the metallic rubbing sound at the front of the car. Lately it's been getting worse and is very bad around 1700 RPM's.
Pulled the belt off and started it up just to make sure it wasn't the motor - no noise - good news. The smog pump was a little noisy, so I performed a Smogpump-ectomy by stripping the guts out and remounting it. Then I spun the water pump pully - pretty good (bad?) noises.
So my questions are -
1 .Does the water pump usually make noises before it fails, or do you think it's just bad bearings? Or do you think I'm barking up the wrong tree?
