Default Rusty windshield frame?

Im in the process of replacing the windshield in my car and once everything was removed I found some rust in the windshield frame,in some spots I thought I was going to find some pin holes but got lucky. So if you need a windshield replacement in the future make sure you get a chance to take a look at the frame once everything is removed.I live in Ca and ive owned this car since 1987 and im pretty sure the windshield has never been out of the car until now so in areas where rust is a problem this is something to think about.Once all the rust was removed I shot a few heavy coats of some Dupont primer and then a few coats of some trim black and I was ready for the glass.one major benifit of doing this job was a chance to remove the rust from the VIN tag. This looks pretty ratty once it starts to rust. This job isnt for the faint of heart,to date this is one of the bigger jobs ive tackled with my car but I wouldnt have it any other way.

wow. what a project!!!

I would want to do that either in CA, or, in a garage - where rain wouldn't put the fear of God into me!!!

Great catch!!!

I might have to do my own windscreen when the time comes.

Looks like something did get carried over from C3 to C4

Good luck with the project

I had an 80 before I bought this car and the windshield frame in that car had holes in it so when I found the rust in my 84 I got really nervous.I had planned on doing everything but at the last minute thought it best to let the glass guy drop in the glass. The new glass is in and now just have to paint the trim,FIGHT WITH THE INSURANCE FOR PAYMENT and the job will be complete. Thanks Glassman for the tips.Oh,and a tip to all,not too wise to walk around in the garage in socks when doing glass work!
