15 definately will cause these problems>> I'm thinking you have a short in your electrical connector. I would reccomend getting a service manual and run thew the diagnostic flow charts.
Had the same problem and replaced the sensor in the waterpump, and that still didn't do it. Turned out it was the pigtail connector itself that needed replacing.
Yes I replaced the one on the water pump and the wires seem ok I get 5 volts acrose the sensor harnes
Is that reading of 5 volts what you are getting at the harness with the sensor plugged in or unplugged?
You should not have 5 volts with the sensor plugged in.
If you do have 5 volts with the sensor plugged in, either the sensor is open or the connector isn't making contact.
Yes i get 4.87 with it pluged in. also had the same problem a year ago when i bought the car in tampa going back to chicago had the sensor replaced and ok till now.

I would have expected it to be lower than even 4.87 volts.
If you just turn the key on without the engine running, what is the temperature showing on your digital engine coolant temperature readout?
And, does it seem like it is the correct temperature?
