I have a 1987 L98. I get the distributor aligned with the cam, only to have it to refuse to go down the last 1/4" or so, which I assume is the point at which it is suppose to drop into the oil pump slot.
I'm getting real tired, taking the distributor out and tweeking the oil pump with a long screwdriver, then replacing the distributor again. It's such a pain to squeese it past the plenium and firewall and rearrange all the cluster of wires and vacuum tubes on and around it.
I was wondering if anyone has tried getting the distributor aligned on the cam where you want it and then turning the engine over with the starter (no More that a turn or two) untril the oil pump allows the distributor to drop in??
How dangerious is this, in terms of lubrication depravation during the turn or two on the engine?
