Lost...misplaced, my only set of keys. GM dealer says that dont have a code to cut a new one. Anyone had this happen? Looking for a suggestion other than replacing the ingnition switch.
First thing I'd do is to contact another dealer to see if they can be more helpful. I've had keys cut for other (older, non-Corvette) cars using only a code, but I can't say whether or not a dealer can do this for yours.
There would be two codes required -- one for the actual cuts in the key, and one for the VATS resistor pellet in the key.
I'm pretty certain your '92 came standard with PKE.
There is a code, but you have to pull the ignition switch to get to it
I lost my keys and had a locksmith come by and make me a new set. He pulled the ignition wrote the numbers down plugged them into his key cutting machine and it kicked out my ignition key. The hard part is figuring out what VAT pellet you need. Your locksmith can do this. If I remember correctly cost me a little over $100.00
I misplaced my keys once and had a locksmith make a set.
The first part is to make a key that will turn the ignition switch.
Second part is to create a key with the resistor built in it.
Every time you try a different resistor you will have to wait for about 7 minutes to try another one.
The locksmith uses a special equipment that will provide the resisance for each option that was used in the vette.
If you need the resistance of each code , send me an Email and will write them for you to have.
To remove the lock I had to dissasemble the steering wheel but I had to disable first the airbag. Be carefull on this step.
Okay, called my local GM dealership today to check on getting a replacement ignition and door key, and this guy tells me there is no VATS (resistor) code listed...so in his professional opinion there isnt a resistor on the key. Is that possible. I am almost certain that my ignition key did have a chip on it.
