Electrical guru's needed: headlight dinging
My headlights throw off the inside dingging noise when they are turned on--EVEN when car is running. This just started happening, where do I start looking. I have an 85--I'd rather fix a simple problem before yanking out that buzzer behind the dash. My cap/rotor were just replaced.

There is a switch contact on the ignition switch that is closed with the key inserted. This contact goes to the alarm module and to the LH door jam switch. With the headlight switch in Park or Headlights and with the LH door jam switch closed (door open), the alarm sounds. Most likely your door jam switch remains closed circuit with the door closed either through a defective switch or a shorted wire going to the door jam switch. The wire from the ignition switch is tan colored on my 87 and might also be on your 85. You need to find this wire and trace it to the door jam switch and find out why it is shorted to ground.

cool...thanks, I'll check that today, My door ajar light has been on for along time and I haven't gotten around to adjusting the doors yet after new weatherstrip/doorpanels...I'll check this evening..
