Default Lowering a C4

Is it possible to lower the front of a 92 just by removing the rubber pads under the ends of the spring? I know it will lower the car, but will the spring damage the aluminum suspension arm?

I have seen some aftermarket springs that use an adjustable pad on the end of the spring to raise and lower the front.

I just did mine and I cut the rubber pads and aluminum clamps that cover the pads on the crossmember to accomodate the thinner rubber and I removed one of the rubber pads on the end of the spring, but I didn't feel good about removing both so I left one on. It's pretty low now and I don't think I'd go any lower myself.

Is there more than one rubber pad under the spring on the ends? I thought it was just one thick pad between the spring and lower a-arm.

The setup on front springs varied a little over the run of C4s; if you find only one pad under your springs you could install a thinner rubber (or even urethane) pad.

On my '95 I took off the entire pad, then to protect the spring, I cut a small square of rubber from a truck innertube and glued it back where the pad assembly was.

No noises, wear, or other adverse effects that I am aware of.

Just get the adjustable bolts for the rear. This allows you to keep the rubber pads or replace them with poly ones and easily adjust your ride height.

Default Rubber end pad removal

I run my front spring with no rubber pads on the ends that rest on the A-arms. I would not suggest it on a daily driver.
I use thick grease, the kind you use on poly-urethane bushings, since it stays put when you apply it. The grease goes between the spring end and aluminum A-arm.

Only drawback is about every 2,000 miles you should drop lower A-arm and clean the area between spring and A-arm as the grease does attract dirt and sand which will cause noise and accelerate wear.

Just be carefull not to go too low with the front end and cause fender interference with the tire on tight turns, like turning over a low curb!

Once again, I would not suggest this on a daily driver

As mentioned earlier, some C4 front springs have a one-piece rubber molded on, this would be tough to remove. Later (95-96) range had the double square pads that can be cut off quite easily
