On my race bikes we would use tank baffels, which where just lengths of a special foam that were placed in the gas tank to help stop fuel from sloshing around when the bike was leaned way over and during transitioning. I haven't looked at the layout of a Vette gas tank to see if it would work or not though.
Is the yellow plastic baffle still in your tank? It goes around the sock. It's there on my car and I haven't experienced any gas loss problems. I am bad and run the tank low a lot to. :o

Look at the rubber tube from that pump outlet to the metal tube that passes through the tank cover. Is there no crack when you bend the tube? Mine was totally gone.
