Default 86 Heater Water Valve ???

I am having a little bit of trouble with my heater. The fan blows, and air is comming out of the correct area when in the heat mode but the air is cold. I think that I have traced the problem to my heater water valve. If I manually open the valve I get nice hot air. I do have vacume at the valve and it apears that when under vacume the valve is closed, with no vacume applied the valve should open. Mine does not open unless I manually open it. My question is with no vacume should the valve open on it's own. For example with the car turned off is the valve spring loaded so it will stay in the open position? Thanks for the help.....

Test the valve with & w/o vacuum; if it does not move you need to repair or replace it.

I would try to repair first as the price a new one from Contemporary Corvette (P/N 30529) is $129. See my site for a link.

Craig I,too, have an 86 vette with the exact same problem as yours. Was it the water control valve. Thanks, Louie 2

I bought my 1984 when it was just 3 years old. The heater control valve had already been removed. I have never missed mine. If it weren't for my parts book, I probably wouldn't know it ever had one. I wouldn't spend a lot of money fixing it, if you can do without as well as I have.

CFI-EFI, is your a/c still nice and cold even with the hot water circulating through the box?

It seems that it was back in the days that I maintained the A/C. Even without A/C, I don't feel any heat with the heater off.

I think you can install a manual control valve in line so you can still block off the hot water in the summer
