Default 95 gears change question

My buddy has a 95 with auto and a 2.59 or possibly 2.73 gears. I need to know the best way to swap gears- entire rear or just have the gears installed. Are the better ratios available for the case that he has now? It's been a while since I read up on C4's. Does his 95w/auto still have the dana 36? Looking to go to 3.07 or 3.45. Any opinions are appreciated! Scott

He has either 2.59 or 3.07 in a Dana 36. He can swap them out for 3.54. Any more gear, he would be better off looking for a D44.

Yes it's a 36. He either has 2.59 or 3.07.

If he has 2.59 and wants to go to 3.07 then the best thing is usually to buy the entire pumpkin used.

If he wants to go 3.54 then have gears installed. There are 3.54 gearsets that will replace either the 2.59 or the 3.07.

Thanks. That's what i needed to know. You don't by chance have the RPO codes for the 2.59 and 3.07, do ya? Scott

Look on the inner console or the punkin itself. Better yet, buy a manual.

I know where the code is on the inner console. It's my buddy's car & looking to help him out. He just got it & doesn't have shop manuals yet. When I get the code, I need to know what it denotes- 3.07 or 2.59. I'll check it tomorrow & post it on here.

I have a 95 A4 with the 3.07 and I drove several with the 2.59 before I bought mine. Save your buddy some gas if its a DD like mine. Believe me he'll like the 3.07.

If it's just a weekend toy, well then perhaps even more would be in order.

Ya, we are looking for a complete 3.07 rear that we can just bolt in and not have to mess with setting up gears. Scott
