Default lt1 internals for supercharger

The engine will be out of my 93 lt1 for an oil pan leak, timing cover leak, head leak and some external performance mods. Next year I would like to add a supercharger, wether ATI or Carrol....Not sure, need more research. But since the motor will be out, I should probably have it beefed up if I want to supercharge... But do I have to? Not really looking to run high boost or to be punching the gas pedal all the time.

thanks

It is one of those things you need to decide... I went with stock internals for a while, once you get the thrill of the additional horsepower, you may kick your self for not going further with the internals...

If anything you would want to drop your compression ratio to about 9.0. I would at least go with forged pistons and rods, they tell me the stock crank should handle like 600 hp... so you could save some money there and keep your stock heads and intake....

I'm having a 396 built forged rods pistons and crank as we speak.

I have a Carroll setup and am very happy with it...

I'm sure others will chime in, but if you have the money go for it ...

Hope that helps,

Mo

"do it once ..do it right.." it will save you $ in the long run. i would do what mo suggested and pick out a nice cam to go with that. be sure to open up the exhaust. more air in needs more air out.

Default Budget Dictates

Do as much as your budget permits but at minimum I would:
> Drop CR to 9-9.5:1.
> Change pistons to forged.
> Use a decent rod.
> Internally balance engine - both front & back.

Given the above you can run 10 pounds of boost all day long: all other things being equal. Now don't ask me what that means!

Regards,
Greg

Well, I'm pulling the engine as we speak. I'd like to reach 450-500 range and spend $2700-$3000 this year on the engine (internals). I will be adding headers, high flow kittys and a 3" exhaust. Next year I'll bolt on the supercharger. What can I get away with. Most people are telling me to have the motor bored to 383 but can I do that with forged internals within the pricerange? Also, will the ECM have to be remapped?

thanks

do whatever you like but always look at the big picture. as in where do you want to see the car in a few years is 450 hp enough? you don't want re-do anything it's just a waste of time and money. so go with the 383 (or larger) 9to 1 full fordge rotating assembly. 42lbs injectors the exhaust as you mentioned and then later on add the vortech t-trim with a gaseus intercooling form greg at blowerworks.
