I am putting a stock GM timing chain back into my 94 LT1. There are two link sideplates on one side of the chain right next to each other that are a different color than all of the others. Is there a significance to these two plates as in which direction or where they need to be installed?
Also what is the procedure for lining up this non keyed balancer? #1 on TDC and 12 oclock?
Thanks
Roy

Don't recall the plates off the top of my head but the timing marks I do and yes the marks at 12 is TDC compresion for #1. When the marks are next to each other it is #6 on the compresion stroke.
FD2BLK,
Thanks for the answer but I think my 2nd question was probably not clear because of the way I posted it in with the timing chain question. I was asking about the non-keyed harmonic balancer, not the dots on the timing gears.

Ok got it,
with the #1 at TDC the bump on in the hub should be at 12 O'clock and line up with the center rib on the timing cover.
looking at the hub as a Y the bump, a raised line I guess is in the center of the v portion of the Y.
Take a look here and you will see a pic of the hub with the bump i am refering to and take a look at the far right timing cover(94 style) and the "rib" I am refering to is the one right above the hole for the crank

Ok,now I just have to know. I have looked through the helms three times and have no idea of what plates your are refering to. The only things i see under thetiming set are the cam shaft retainer plateand the idler gear assy.
i seem to remember a plate under the timing gear bolts with tabs that bent over but the helms does not show it
Think of looking at a chain from the side. Ever install a master link in a chain? You know the plate you put on the link before you put on the retaining clip? I am talking about the little side plates that make up the links of the timing chain. All of the links of the chain are Bronze in color. Two of the side plates (on two of the links, on the same side of the chain, and right next to each other) Are steel blue in color rather than the bronze of all of the others. I notice this on the old one I removed and the new one I am installing. Just wondering if there is any significance to them.
