Default 1989 ZF6 speed shifting problems

Having intermittent trouble when shifting from first to second gear. It seems to get stuck between gears. It comes out of first but won't let me shift to any other gear until I shake the shifter then it works. Any Ideas?

Are you sure it's not the CAGS working?

New owner, wasn't aware of this feature. I don't really like it but at least I don’t need to pull the tranny.

I bought my car on a Monday night. On Tuesday night I bypassed the CAGS. It's the most irritating "feature" ever devised if you ask me.

Make sure the clutch fluid is at the correct level, you might consider flushing and bleeding the system.

Since the car is new to you, it would not be a bad idea to change all fluids and everything freash and at a baseline.

Default Mystery solved

It's the CAGS crap. I will be disabling it soon.

I searched for a kit to disable this. It exists for the C5 and C6. Same kit for a C4? If not, would someone provide a link for a C4 kit supplier?

I agree...what a pita feature.

Thanks.

MaMo results $16

Eckler's $12

Watch out for shipping & handling costs, that's where eckler's makes their $$. It's like a retroactive vette tax.

PS The 1996 kit is different than the other C4 kits, so you'll need to do your own search.

Ditto I bought one that was a "generic" and it listed itself thru '96, but, although the plugs looked alike, they were keyed different. luckily I could shave the keys off with a knife and make it work. I got mine from JEGS and paid too much for it.
live and learn, I guess...

Thanks, JCD. Just what I needed.

And the MaMo link has the different setup for the '96.

Thanks all.
