Help Putting a 383 stroker in 84 vett got to the harmonic balancer it is 8 inch. fram is in the way please tell me i can do something besides beating out frame. Thanks guys.
If the motor uses a neutral balance damper, your options are wide open. If it is external, as mine is, modding the frame is needed to stay with the 8 inch external damper. It has been years since I have checked about availability of external balancers that were smaller than 8 inch. Maybe they are available in the aftermarket.
ATI makes the 6 inch balancer that I was talking about. It is not cheap, but you don't have to start chopping you car. I think fluidamper does as well if you like the no maintenance approach. These are for the external balance.

Yes, fluidamper makes an ext balance that will clear the frame-it's bigger than 6", but does clear. I'm using one on my 406.
I did notch the frame and ran an original new gm balancer at first-a mistake, but I got lucky! After about 20K mi. it broke off at the crank snout; fortunately when I went to restart it and not just before when it had been at 5800rpm! And I also lucked out again....I was able to drill and easy out the bolt that had broken off in the crank snout!
So, yes, it's well worth it to pay that much money for an aftermarket balancer when you start the mods!
Thanks eveyone for the help, let you know how it runs when i get it together. Got a good engine deal from sons of thunder, great guys.
Thanks colemanron
