Default Power antenna mast replacement

The antenna mast of my 92 Coupe is bent and I'd like to change it (The motor works fine), but I'd like to know how to change it without having to pull out the complete assembly.

So is there a simple way to change the mast ONLY ?

Thanks

Greg

I do believe you must remove the unit.

Remove the antenna mast nut. The mast I bought came with a special socket type tool to remove the nut at the top of the antenna. When you turn the radio on the mast and the plastic gear feeds itself out. Take note of which way the gear is positioned and feed in the new mast gear till it stops and have someone turn your radio off making sure it engages it should feed itself in. Replace the nut and cycle a few times to get the new mast to to extend and retract fully. I bought my new mast kit on ebay for about $30. Hope this helps

Looks pretty simple, thank you for your replies guys

But I guess I have to remove the seal first. I tried so but I couldn't manage to get this seal out, it seems a pain in the ... to remove.
Is there a way of removing it without damaging it of course.
Thx

You don't have to remove any seals if you are just replacing the mast. There is a special nut with 2 flat sides and 2 round sides that you need to use the special socket and whole thing can be replaced as I described.

You have pull up the rubber grommet around the mast to get to the nut. This holds the mast in. A small flat head screwdriver worked fine, just place a thin piece of cardboard or wood to keep from scraping the car surface. Pry it up gently. Just take a look of which way the nylon teeth are facing on the old mast, so when you feed the new one its in the same direction. Good luck

The job is done...It's actually really easy.
wrw7255 was right it's no need no remove the rubber grommet to access the nut.
For a start I tried to remove the grommet, but I gave up after 10 minutes.
I then realized that I could remove the nut without pulling the grommet out.
Then I could finish the job in 10 minutes though I am not a DIY as you could have noticed
Thanks for your help

HI Guys...My 94 antenna mast was bent by a dumbassed kid whizzing between traffic on a moped....anyway,, I have a replacement mast but the kit didn't come with the special socket to remove the nut,,..if someone still has that socket and would be willing to let me buy or borrow I'd be eternally grateful...I'm a disabled veteran so getting under the car to pull the antenna motor isn't something I can do myself or afford to pay to have done ....PM me or contact via my email Calvinmd2000@yahoo.com
